چکیده

Previous work has demonstrated the correlation of periorbital perfusion and stress levels in human beings. It has also been suggested that periorbital perfusion can be quantified through processing of thermal video. The idea has been based on the fact that skin temperature is heavily modulated by superficial blood perfusion. Proof of this concept was established for two different types of stress inducing experiments: startle and mock-crime polygraph interrogations. However, the polygraph interrogation scenarios were simplistic and highly constrained. In the present video, we report results on a large and realistic mock-crime interrogation experiment. The interrogation is free flowing and no restrictions have been placed on the subjects. We propose a new methodology to compute the average periorbital temperature signal. The present approach addresses the deficiencies of the earlier methodology and is capable of coping with the challenges posed by the realistic setting. Specifically, it features a tandem condensation tracker to register the periorbital area in the context of a moving face. It operates on the raw temperature signal and tries to improve the information content by suppressing the noise level instead of amplifying the signal as a whole. Finally, a pattern recognition method classifies stressful (Deceptive) from nonstressful (Non-Deceptive) subjects based on a comparative measure between the interrogation signal (baseline) and portions thereof (transient response). Figure 1 depicts the overall system architecture. The successful classification rate is 87.2% for 39 subjects. This is in par with the success rate achieved by highly trained psychophysiological experts and opens the way for automating lie detection in realistic settings. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Thermal Imaging in Face Recognition and Deception Detection

Face recognition is a wide area having many techniques to achieve the same. The aim of the paper is to introduce Thermal Imaging and to study how it can be used for facial recognition and also for deception detection. This paper looks into the single modal and multi modal face recognition techniques involving infrared (IR) imaging. It then moves to analyze facial variations to study deception u...

1521 THE DIAGNOSIS OF SLEEP APNEA TYPICALLY INVOLVES AN OVERNIGHT POLYSOMNOGRAM WITH CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF SEVERAL PHYSIOLOGIC parameters and surrogate measures of airflow (nasal pressure [Pn], oronasal thermistor, expired CO2 waveform [PECO2]) using contact sensors. 1-5 A subject can come in contact with at least 20 such sensors during a study. These sensors and the wires can influence not ...

Low Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring

In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...

A Multimodal Dataset for Deception Detection

This paper presents the construction of a multimodal dataset for deception detection, including physiological, thermal, and visual responses of human subjects under three deceptive scenarios. We present the experimental protocol, as well as the data acquisition process. To evaluate the usefulness of the dataset for the task of deception detection, we present a statistical analysis of the physio...
